TULSA, Okla. – The University of Denver women’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 extra time result at Oral Roberts on Thursday night at the Case Soccer Complex.

Freshman midfielder Meg Halvorson’s (Englewood, Colo.) fourth goal of her rookie campaign came off assists from Denver’s leading goal scorer Jessie Dancy (Park City, Utah) and senior midfielder Riley Welch (Littleton, Colo.). Dancy and Welch combined to free the Denver freshman, who uncorked a shot from 25 yards out into the upper-right corner to put the Pioneers ahead in the 13th minute.

Caitlyn Hanslovan equalized for the home side in the 30th minute for her fourth goal of the season. Nelly Mamabolo and Drishama Pillay setup the equalizer. After receiving a pass from Pillay, Mamabolo played a cross into the area that Hanslovan got on the end of, sliding it in off the back post.

Neither team was able to find the regulation winner in the second half, but Denver controlled the ball in the final 15 minutes of the 90. In extra time, Jordan Langebartels was determined to have beaten the Denver offside line on a ball over the top from Brooklyn Eardley. Langebartles finished the winner for her fifth of the season into the right corner of the goal frame.

Denver outshot the Golden Eagles 11-9 in the match, and put seven of their 11 attempts on target.

“It was a gut-wrenching match tonight,” head coach Jeff Hooker said. “We had moments in the first half where we were just too passive and on our heels, but Meg was able to score for us, and we went into halftime tied. We were much better in the second half and I thought that we controlled overtime super well until we just gave away a foul that didn’t need to happen and then got caught playing way too high of a line for that situation. We switched off and looked to the linesman to raise his flag, but credit their player who finished the shot well. It’s a tough one to swallow.”
