Garzelloni Named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week
Denver’s holding mid scored twice on Friday, while sitting in-front of a back four that conceded one shot on goal this weekend

ELMHURST, Ill. – University of Denver women’s soccer redshirt-senior defensive midfielder Francesca Garzelloni (Parker, Colo.) has been named the co-Summit League Defensive Player of the Week, the Summit League office announced on Monday.
Garzelloni scored her first two goals of the season on Friday night in Denver’s 5-0 win over Fort Wayne, while sitting in-front of a Denver back four that allowed a combined one shot on goal in the two matches this weekend.
The two-time Summit League First Team selection earned her first career Summit League Player of the Week award on Monday, a day after winning her 75th CAP for the Pioneers.
Denver shared the 2016 Summit League Regular Season title with North Dakota State, giving the Pioneers their first league title since going unbeaten in the league in 2013.
The Pioneers will enter this week’s Summit League Women’s Soccer Championship as the No. 2 seed, taking on No. 3 South Dakota State in the second semifinal Thursday at 2 p.m. MT.
