O’Loughlin Completes Weekend at Oracle ITA Masters

The DU senior will be bringing back a pair of wins after the invite-only tournament this weekend.

MALIBU, Calif. – Denver’s Julia O’Loughlin took to California this weekend to play in the invite-only Oracle ITA Masters tournament, hosted by the Malibu Racquet Club and Pepperdine University.

O’Loughlin was just one out of 32 female student-athletes selected from across the country to compete in Malibu.

The Highland Beach, Fla., native picked up a pair of wins in singles action, while she also partnered up with Omaha’s Razvan Grigorescu for mixed doubles action.

Despite losing her first match of the tournament, O’Loughlin kept her composer. She then took her first win on the consolation draw, taking out Jennifer Lu of Quinnipac 6-4, 6-1 on Friday.

On Saturday, the Pioneer won a thrilling three-set victory over Kristina Mathis of Dartmouth, 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-0. In her second match of the day, O’Loughlin competed hard, but came out on the losing end of another thrilling three-setter.

Next for the Pioneers is a trip to Pacific Palisades, Calif., for the ITA All-American Championships that stretch from Sept. 30 to Oct. 8.
