DU Duo of Mok and O’Loughlin Capture Wins at Riviera All-American

Oct. 8, 2017

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – A pair of Pioneers represented the University of Denver this week at the Riviera ITA All-American Championships in California.

Junior Bianca Mok and senior Julia O’Loughlin were the lone DU student-athletes competing in the prestigious fall tournament, battling against competitors from various universities around the United States.

On Tuesday, in qualifying Mok took down Auburn’s Taylor Russo in an exciting three-setter, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5. However, the Boise, Idaho native fell in the next round to Brooke Austin, another SEC student-athlete out of Florida.

O’Loughlin scored a three-set victory in the main draw, taking out Pepperdine’s Mair Ahmed 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. In the next round, Texas Tech’s Gabriela Talaba knocked her out with a 6-2, 6-4 score.

“This is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the calendar year, so this was a good showing for both Bianca and Julia,” said associate head coach David Loewenthal. “It should help them as they prepare to lead the rest of our girls into battle this upcoming week at our ITA Regional Championships in Salt Lake City.”
