Denver Earns Highlight Victories at Florida Gulf Coast Invitational

Jan. 16, 2018

DENVER -

The University of Denver women’s tennis team finished last weekend at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational with multiple ranked victories in preparation for the start of the fall season.

The highlight of the tournament came on Day 1 as Denver defeated No. 91 Florida Gulf Coast University, 4-2, in singles. Individual victories from Julia O’Laughlin, Bianca Mok, Hada Chang and Camille Verden-Anderson propelled the Pioneers past the Eagles.

Mok was a top performer for Denver throughout the weekend, defeating No. 81 Natalie Suk (University of Mississippi) 7-5, 6-0 in singles play and joining O’Loughlin to top No. 13 Arianne Hantoro and Alexa Bortles (Ole Miss) in doubles play, 6-4. She finished the weekend with a 5-1 record through singles and doubles matches.

“It was great to be able to play a lot of quality matches this past weekend against FGCU, Ole Miss, Rice and South Carolina,” Denver coach Christian Thompson said. “We have a lot to work on over the next two weeks at home to get ready for our first dual match against Dartmouth at the ITA Kick-Off.”

Denver is set to open the fall season at the International Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off from Jan. 26-28 in Atlanta, Ga. The Pioneers’ first home match is set for Feb. 9 against Utah State and the team will open conference play on March 31 against South Dakota State. View the full schedule here.
