Team Slattery/O’Loughlin Falls in National Quarterfinals

May 27, 2017

The historic run by partners Maureen Slattery and Julia O’Loughlin at the NCAA Div. I Women’s Tennis Doubles Championship Tournament came to an end on Saturday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia as the No. 17-ranked tandem fell to No. 5 Team Pothoff/Routliffe (Alabama) in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). Team Slattery/O’Loughlin finishes the 2017 campaign with a record of 19-3, giving them the best single-season winning percentage (.863) in program history (min. 15 decisions).

Denver’s dynamic duo made it further in the NCAA Doubles Tournament than any team in Pioneers history, resultantly becoming the program’s first All-Americans by virtue of their quarterfinal appearance. Previous DU doubles teams have competed in the national championships include Team Schnoy/Bergner (2010) and Team Dullens/Maksovic (2005), both of whom fell in Round of 32 action.
