Denver Ranked among Top Programs in Country for Women’s Volleyball

March 31, 2017

MCLEAN, Va. (DU/USA TODAY) - According to a report from USA TODAY, the University of Denver was named as one of the best colleges to play women’s volleyball, coming in at No. 4 on the list of top eight programs in the country, and ahead of perennial contenders such as Florida and Penn State.

“This is an incredible honor to be recognized as one of the top colleges in the country to play volleyball and alongside powerhouses such as Stanford and Texas,” said head coach Tom Hogan, fresh off his first season at the helm of the program. “It’s something we’ve known here at Denver for quite some time as we’ve worked each and every day to build a championship-caliber program.

“Our student-athletes are top notch and together we’ve created a culture of unity and excellence. We have first-rate facilities coupled with unwavering support from our administration, and the university is located in one of the top cities to live in the U.S. and offers one of the best educations in the country.”

The Pioneers are fresh off their third-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament during a season that saw plenty of successes on and off the court as the Crimson and Gold claimed their third-straight Summit League Regular Season and Tournament Championships, had their first victory over a ranked opponent in nearly five years with a four-set decision over [20] Loyola Marymount on Sept. 2, had five esteemed student-athletes named to the All-Summit League Team and recently signed four outstanding individuals for the 2017 campaign.

“We work hard to foster a culture that supports our student-athletes in their pursuits here at DU and beyond,” added Hogan, “and we’re grateful to be recognized in this national ranking.”

Denver is gearing up for next year’s Summit League title defense as additional signings will be announced in the coming weeks.
