DENVER – University of Denver women's tennis players
Claudia Martinez de Velasco and
Louise Wikander are ranked No. 71 in the 2025 ITA Preseason Doubles Rankings, the ITA announced on Tuesday.
Martinez de Velasco/Wikander achieved an ITA national doubles ranking as high as No. 110 during the 2024-25 season and ended the year as the No. 8 ranked doubles team in the ITA Mountain Regional.
Together, they put together an outstanding campaign together a year ago, finishing 26-5 overall including 16-2 in dual, all at the No. 2 spot for DU in what was the first year for the two Denver seniors to be paired together.
This is the first time either player has held an ITA preseason ranking, and they are the first Denver doubles team to hold a preseason ranking since
Hada Chang and
Taylor Melville were No. 36 ahead of the 2021 season. Martinez de Velasco/Wikander are now the fourth Denver duo to be ranked in the preseason since at least 2006-07.
Martinez de Velasco/Wikander are the third-highest ranked team from the ITA Mountain Regional, behind only No. 42 Safarova/Polakova from Boise State and No. 65 Nelson/Bubalo from Colorado.
The ITA Preseason Rankings feature the top 125 singles players and 90 doubles teams in the country based on their final national rankings for the 2024-25 season and by World Tennis Numbers (WTN).
The 2025-26 University of Denver women's tennis team will begin its 2025 fall season at the Bedford Cup in the Rockies, hosted by the Air Force Academy, on September 19-21.
